What are Keto Gummies?

Keto Gummies are often called Keto ACV Gummies or ACV Gummies. What the ACV means is Apple Cider Vinegar. This is often a key component in these gummies that apparently help for weight loss, gut health, boosting mental clarity, giving you more energy, putting your body into fat burning mode etc. I mean, let's face it, it all sounds fabulous doesn't it? Popping a few of these cute little gummies a day and suddenly the weight is falling off, you are sleeping better, you are basically an all-round better human. Amazing!

The keto diet (ketogenic diet), known for its ability to keep the body in a state of ketosis, offers numerous benefits. This high-fat diet can rev up your metabolism, promote muscle growth, and improve blood pressure while facilitating fat loss. Ketosis, the key to these advantages, occurs when your body opts for ketones, a type of fatty acid, as its primary energy source instead of glucose.

Maintaining ketosis can be challenging, as it entails adhering to a strict dietary regimen that emphasises foods like meat, eggs, nuts, and fish, while limiting or avoiding items such as fruits, sugars, beans, and high-carb vegetables.

This is where the concept of keto supplements comes into play, including keto pills, keto oil, keto powders, and these increasingly popular keto gummies. These products claim to support the continuation of ketosis in your body.

Keto gummies, in particular, are formulated with exogenous ketones, a sophisticated term for ketones obtained from an external source.

In summary, we support the keto diet. We think that apple cider vinegar poses several health benefits. But keto gummies? Hmmmm, let's see ...

Do they work?

Despite what you might read, there is no scientific evidence to prove that keto gummies work. We have a good video on our blog post about keto gummies (which can be found here), but this following video (from a registered Dietician) may also be helpful:

Fads in the world of wellness and weight loss may come and go, and keto gummies are just one of those, even as health professionals express concerns about the increasing presence of ultra-processed foods (UPF). Among these UPFs, gummies emerge as a noteworthy yet somewhat insidious category, often containing high levels of sugar, sweeteners, glazing agents, and artificial colourings.

Don't get us wrong, apple cider vinegar definitely has health benefits, but you ain't getting anywhere near enough of the stuff from these gummies, in fact, these gummies may actually be worse for you than not taking them at all.

The keto diet is great, we endorse it. But keto gummies are just a fad and the above two videos are well worth a watch.

Keto gummies are marketed as a delightful and convenient way to maintain ketosis while indulging in something sweet. They typically contain ingredients such as medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) or exogenous ketones, which are believed to help the body enter or sustain a state of ketosis more easily. For individuals on the ketogenic diet, these gummies may seem like a dream come true – a guilt-free way to satisfy sugar cravings.

Why Keto Gummies Fall Short:

  1. Inadequate Dosage: The effectiveness of keto gummies largely depends on the dosage of key ingredients. Many gummy products may not provide enough MCTs or exogenous ketones to significantly impact ketosis. Achieving and maintaining ketosis usually requires a more substantial intake of these compounds than what gummies typically offer.

  2. Dietary Context Matters: While keto gummies aim to support the ketogenic process, they are not a magic solution on their own. The success of the ketogenic diet relies on strict dietary adherence and careful control of macronutrients. Relying solely on gummies may not yield the desired results if the overall diet is not aligned with keto principles.

  3. Individual Variability: The effectiveness of keto gummies can vary widely among individuals. Factors such as metabolic rate, activity level, and genetics play a significant role in how the body responds to ketogenic interventions. What works for one person may not work as effectively for another.

  4. Quality Control: The quality and ingredient sourcing of keto gummies can differ among brands. Some products may use lower-quality ingredients or fail to undergo rigorous testing, compromising their effectiveness.

  5. Caloric Considerations: Keto gummies, while low in carbs, are not devoid of calories. Overconsumption can still contribute to an excess of daily calorie intake, potentially hindering weight loss goals. Many contain sugar, not good!

Side Effects of Keto Gummies

While keto gummies may appear as a convenient and delicious way to adhere to the ketogenic diet, it's essential to be aware of potential side effects and risks associated with their consumption. These sweet treats, like any dietary supplement, can have drawbacks that need consideration.

  1. Digestive Distress: Keto gummies often contain sugar alcohols like erythritol or xylitol to maintain their sweetness without adding carbohydrates. For some individuals, these sugar alcohols can lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, including gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Excessive consumption of keto gummies can exacerbate these symptoms.

  2. Caloric Impact: While keto gummies are low in carbohydrates, they are not devoid of calories. Overindulging in these treats can contribute to a surplus of daily calorie intake, which is exactly what you don't want to do if you want to lose weight.

  3. Blood Sugar Fluctuations: Despite their low-carb content, keto gummies can still influence blood sugar levels, particularly if consumed in excess. Individuals with diabetes or insulin resistance should exercise caution, as unexpected spikes or crashes in blood sugar can occur.

  4. Laxative Effect: Some keto gummies contain ingredients like MCT oil, which can have a laxative effect on certain individuals, leading to diarrhoea or loose stools. It's vital to monitor your body's response and adjust your intake accordingly.

  5. Additive Ingredients: Keto gummies may contain additives, artificial colours, or preservatives to enhance their flavour and appearance. Some individuals may be sensitive to these additives, potentially experiencing allergic reactions or digestive discomfort.

  6. Quality and Labelling Concerns: The quality of keto gummies can vary among brands, and not all products undergo rigorous testing for safety and effectiveness. Choosing reputable brands with transparent ingredient labels is crucial to minimise risks associated with subpar products.

  7. Dental Health: Just like traditional gummy candies, keto gummies can be harmful to dental health due to their stickiness and sugar content. Regular consumption without proper oral hygiene practices can contribute to tooth decay and cavities.

The Grey Areas:

These sweet treats claim the world, promise to support ketosis and make adhering to the keto diet more enjoyable. However, it's important to understand that the world of keto gummies is largely unregulated, with little scientific proof to support their efficacy.

The Lack of Regulation

One of the significant concerns surrounding keto gummies is the lack of regulation in the dietary supplement industry. Unlike pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, including gummies, do not undergo rigorous testing and scrutiny by regulatory agencies before they hit the market. This means that the quality, safety, and effectiveness of these products can vary widely among different brands.

The Missing Scientific Proof

Another critical aspect to consider is the absence of substantial scientific evidence supporting the claims made by keto gummies. While some studies suggest that certain ingredients found in these gummies, such as exogenous ketones or MCTs, may have potential benefits for ketosis and weight loss, the evidence is often limited and inconclusive.

Moreover, the studies that do exist are frequently funded or conducted by the manufacturers of these supplements, raising questions about potential bias and conflicts of interest. Independent, peer-reviewed research on the specific effects of keto gummies is limited, making it challenging to draw firm conclusions about how well they work, if at all.

The Importance of a Balanced Approach

While keto gummies may seem like a convenient way to enjoy a sweet treat while staying in ketosis, it's vital to approach them with a healthy dose of skepticism. They should not be viewed as a magic solution to weight loss or metabolic improvement. The foundation of a successful ketogenic diet should always be based on whole, nutrient-rich foods that align with the principles of the diet.

Additionally, consulting with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian can provide valuable guidance when considering dietary supplements like keto gummies. These experts can help you navigate the unregulated landscape of dietary supplements and make informed decisions about their inclusion in your diet.

In conclusion, keto gummies remain a largely unregulated and unproven category in the world of dietary supplements. While they may offer a sweet and convenient option for those following the ketogenic diet, it's essential to approach them with caution and prioritise a balanced and evidence-based approach to weight loss and overall health.

The Bottom Line:

Keto gummies at exogenous ketones that may serve as an enjoyable snack within the context of the ketogenic diet, but it's essential to approach them with realistic expectations - they don't work despite what you may read on websites elsewhere. They are not a magic solution for achieving and maintaining ketosis or substantial weight loss on their own. For optimal results, individuals should prioritise whole, nutrient-rich foods and maintain strict dietary adherence to ketogenic principles.

As clearly explained in the videos above, their ingredients just don't work and they may actually be worse for you than not taking them at all.

While keto gummies can add a touch of sweetness to your keto journey, they should not replace the foundation of your diet, which should consist of quality fats, moderate protein, and minimal carbohydrates. As with any dietary supplement, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian for 1x1 guidance on your weight loss journey.

Keto Gummies Reviews

“As someone committed to the keto diet for both health and weight loss reasons, I've always been on the lookout for convenient ways to stay in ketosis while enjoying the occasional sweet treat. This search led me to keto gummies, which seemed like the perfect solution – a delightful way to satisfy sugar cravings while supporting my low-carb lifestyle. However, my experience with keto gummies turned out to be a journey marked by unmet expectations, side effects, and ingredient concerns.

When I first discovered keto gummies, I was genuinely excited. The prospect of indulging in a sweet treat that was keto-friendly sounded too good to be true. The gummies I chose came in enticing flavours like raspberry and lemon, and they promised to deliver exogenous ketones, which would help maintain ketosis. It all sounded promising.

My initial excitement quickly gave way to disappointment as I integrated keto gummies into my daily routine. Despite diligent adherence to my ketogenic diet and regular exercise, I didn't see the results I had hoped for. My weight loss progress seemed to stall, and I couldn't help but wonder if the gummies were to blame.

The scale wasn't the only aspect of my journey that left me unsatisfied. I expected a sustained energy boost from the added ketones, but instead, I experienced fluctuations in energy levels. It was as if I had brief bursts of energy followed by sudden crashes, leaving me feeling fatigued and irritable.

One of the most disappointing aspects of my experience with keto gummies was the unexpected side effects. I had heard about potential digestive discomfort associated with sugar alcohols, which many keto gummies contain to maintain sweetness without carbohydrates. Unfortunately, I became intimately familiar with this discomfort first-hand.

Gas, bloating, and occasional bouts of diarrhoea became part of my daily life. It was embarrassing and inconvenient, to say the least. I couldn't pinpoint whether it was the erythritol or xylitol in the gummies that triggered these symptoms, but it was clear that my digestive system was not happy with this addition to my diet.

As I delved deeper into my keto gummy journey, I started scrutinizing the ingredient list more closely. What I discovered left me with lingering concerns. While some brands claimed to provide clean and natural ingredients, others contained additives, artificial colourings, and preservatives that raised questions about their overall quality.

The lack of regulation in the dietary supplement industry made it challenging to trust that what I was consuming was truly safe and effective. I couldn't help but wonder if these gummies were more about marketing hype than genuine health benefits.

In the end, my experience with keto gummies left me re-evaluating my approach to the ketogenic diet. I realized that I had placed too much hope in a single product and that there were no shortcuts to lasting results. It wasn't the gummies that would get me to my goals; it was a holistic approach to nutrition, exercise, and overall wellness.

I decided to part ways with keto gummies, acknowledging that they had not lived up to my expectations. Instead, I focused on whole, nutrient-rich foods that aligned with the principles of the keto diet. The journey has been challenging, but it's been marked by steady progress and a newfound sense of well-being. Keto gummies were are not part of my success story and it was just a waste of money.

In conclusion, my experience with keto gummies was one of unrealised expectations, unexpected side effects, and ingredient concerns."

Alex, Sydney.
